NEWS IN BRIEF:
 
BETHESDA SHOPPERS MOURN THE LOSS OF YET ANOTHER USELESS TCHOTCHKE STORE

Hobart L., president of the local business organization, Bethesda Chamber of Secrets, lamented, “It’s a real sign that the recession is still upon us.  This area used to support six or seven useless tchotchke stores.  Now only four are left.”

Distraught shopper Gina W., staring at the darkened storefront, said, “This is terrible.  Where the heck will I get those things you put on wineglasses so you know whose is whose?”


LOCAL MAN'S LIBRARY FINES RESULT IN LIEN AGAINST HOME
Local homeowner Gary L. was shocked to discover a lien had been placed against his home for outstanding library fines. 

“It was such a confusing situation,” said Gary. “You can’t return books to Barnes & Noble.  But you must return books to the public library.  Who can keep that straight?”

The lien came 4 months after Mr. L. discovered a boot on his car, the result of overdue video rentals from Blockbuster.  “I thought, you know, Blockbuster was closed down, so there was no place to return them.  They kept billing my credit card.  Finally, I left them on the bench near where the entrance used to be.  I figured someone would be back to pick them up, but no…“
